Musical Education: Is it Really Worth it? (Part 1)

I’m going to make this short, since I could probably discuss this topic for quite a long time. 🙂 So here’s the question: Is musical education really as worth it as some people make it out to be?I mean, look at all those natural prodigies out there that were amazing before a teacher ever touched them. If we can just find their little secret, we’ll be good to go, RIGHT?? UM…….. yes!… if you’re a prodigy. Okay, you get my line of thought.

Don’t think though, that you ‘re hopeless without a teacher. Never will I endorse that thought. I have now played piano for about 11 years. Four out of 10 of those years, my mom taught me how to read music and a few of the piano basics. The rest of the time, I taught myself. I got to mid-intermediate and then hit a speed bump. Hopelessly floundering around, I began toying around with the idea of canning this whole piano thing. The only thing that kept me going was the fact that I’m a hopeless music fanatic and knew I wouldn’t have been able to live without piano for more than several months.
